The rentals, es el grupo formado por Matt Sharpp, antiguo guitarra de WEEZER.
The rentals se constituyeron en 1995, y sacaron dos LPs: "The return of the Rentals" (1995) y "seven more minutes" (1999). Y después se disolvieron.
En 2005, coincidiendo con el 10º aniversario de la constitución deñl grupo, y tras un parón de seis años, se volvieron a juntar auqnue por diferente smotivos el lanzamiento de uin nuevo trabajo se retraso hasta el 2007, momento en el cual se publicó un nuevo EP "the last little life EP"
En el 2009 THE RENTALS estuvieron muy activos, y publicaron tres EPs: ""the story of a thousand seasons past", "it´s time to come home" y "the future"
